About

Box-chan is a female character, created by imouto#7185 on Discord.

She is used to defuse random or bad situations that can not be handled. When a situation like this happens, you send an image of Box-chan to the person, and this is a way to tell the person that you want to stop whatever was happening, and put the situation or problem away in the box, and leave it be.

However, she may also be used as a way to give something to someone. That something, being the contents of the box.
Though, if used like this, it's best to show the contents poking out, or being shown through a hole in the box.

Origin

Box-chan was posted to the Random server on Discord on August 3rd 2017. They were posted along with a couple more images of drawings that imouto had drawn with their sister, though no comments were made on any of the drawings other than Box-chan.
The character began as a circle imouto had drawn for their sister (most likely just the body), before imouto said that they were going to mess it up, and then, messed it up.

The original image featuring Box-chan depicts the character holding out a box and saying, "box desu" (with "desu" being written in Japanese characters), though other users thought it it said, "box?".

Spread

A few hours after imouto posted the original image, another user, 𐍄he𐍂eal𐍃miley, posted a pixel art version of the original image.

Talk started to drum up about what was actually inside of the box that the character was holding. Jokes were passed back and forth about this, such as; the box containing another box, the Japanese character for 'Ah', a cat, and Box-chan herself.
