About
CAM ON INGERLAND SCOR SOM FACKIN GOALS refers to a copypastsa and catchphrase popular on the 4chan boards /sp/ and /pol/ associated with an image of a large, shirtless man banging on a drum representing rabid English sports fans. The phrase is a cheer for England, phonetically spelled "ingerland" as if spoken by someone with a thick English accent. "Ingerland" has been used on 4chan since at least 2010, often mockingly, with the cheering copypasta becoming popular in 2018.
Origin
The term "ingerland," used as a stereotypical phonetic replacement for "England," started becoming popular on 4chan's television board /tv/[3] and sports board /sp/[1][2] between 2010 and 2012, typically on boards discussing sports games involving English teams. The term caught on over the next decade, showing over 2,300 search results on 4chan archival site 4plebs[4] as of March 2021.
Throughout June and July of 2018, leading up to the FIFA World Cup, anonymous /sp/[5][6] users began making posts using some variation of the phonetically spelled phrase "CAM ON INGERLAND SCOR SOM FACKIN GOALS" to the board in support of England, often alongside images of rabid sports fans, particularly overweight shirtless men and Paul "Tango" Gregory,[13] a known rabid English football fan on /sp/ (examples shown below).
On July 7th, 2018, Twitter[13] user @basedloller3 posted a version of the phrase along with an image of two shirtless overweight sports fans, one banging a drum, garnering over 450 likes and 150 retweets in roughly two years. On July 12th, an anonymous /sp/ user posted the same image with a similar phrase (shown below), offering two of the earliest times the drummer image was used along with the phrase.
Spread
The format continued across a number of 4chan boards over the next three years with the most popular associated images remaining Paul Gregory and the drummer. In that time, a number of versions of the images edited to look like Pepe the Frog became popular on /sp/[14] ( example shown below).
On August 25th, 2020, an anonymous user of 4chan's /int/[7] board posted a 2010 Alamy[10] stock image of a large man banging on a drum at an English football match along with a caption meant to narrate the image, including the cheer for "ingerland" to score goals and expressed drum banging (shown below). This became the most popular post associated with the phrase.
