Camera and Raised Eyebrow Emoji or 🤨📸 is a combination of emojis used as an alternative to the slang term and meme Caught In 4k. The emojis are often used in response to sus content or weird online behavior intended to call the person out. The combination first started appearing online in 2017 and became increasingly popularized over the following years.

Origin

The earliest known use of the "Camera With Flash" emoji in combination with the "Face with One Eyebrow Raised" emoji was posted to Twitter^[1] on November 6th, 2017, by user @VonSwagger. It was first defined on Urban Dictionary^[2] on August 31st, 2021, by user smeezeburger, writing, "pretty much the emoji version of 'caught in 4k,' often used on TikTok."

Spread

The emoji combo became increasingly popularized throughout the late 2010s and early 2020s as an alternative to writing "caught in 4k." On March 5th, 2021, Twitter^[3] user @LAGOMAXIE posted a piece of artwork based on the Danganronpa series using the combo in the caption, gaining over 2,600 likes in a year (shown below).

The emoji combo is notably prevalent on TikTok, where it's often used in the caption or on-screen text of "caught in 4k" and "sus" videos. For example, on August 30th, 2021, TikToker^[4] @kekselecker_tv used the combo in a video, gaining over 1.4 million views in 10 months (shown below, left). On September 16th, TikToker^[5] @_dani_163 used it in the caption of a caught in 4k video, gaining over 1.6 million views in nine months (shown below, right).

On May 6th, 2022, YouTuber^[6] Bayashi TV posted a video titled, "Chicken 🤨📸" where he prepares a chicken breast that somewhat resembles a vagina, gaining over 33 million views in a month (shown below).
