Can't Even Play Minecraft In Ohio is a catchphrase used in a series of Ohio vs. the World memes in which cursed Minecraft videos and edits are shown alongside captions claiming it's the Ohio version of Minecraft, often set to the song "Smoke" by Cowbell Cult. The meme started to spread across TikTok around August 2022, also spreading on YouTube and Twitter over the following months. Many of the videos are sourced from YouTuber Not Safe, who makes bizarro Minecraft edits.
Origin
On August 15th, 2022, TikToker[1] @thanh.ms.ytb posted a Minecraft video edit showing the player getting into a large bed and then growing to a massive size followed by several other strange in-game occurrences that are not possible to perform in-game, garnering over 11.5 million views in three months (shown below, left). That day, TikToker[2] @dorianlucas7 reuploaded the video captioned, "POV: most normal day in Ohio," garnering over 18,000 views in the same span of time.

Spread
The trend continued to spread across TikTok and YouTube over the following months. Many of the videos are reuploads of videos by YouTuber Not Safe, who posts edits and clips of modded versions of Minecraft that show bizarre things happening in-game. On October 3rd, 2022, YouTuber[3] Alexa Real posted a video titled, "can't even play minecraft in ohio 💀" showing a player going to the game's The End stage and fighting a strange version of the dragon boss, garnering over 176,000 views in a month (shown below).
On November 8th, YouTuber[4] max_lucky reuploaded a video originally by YouTuber[5] Not Safe with additional music titled, "when you try to speedrun minecraft in ohio," garnering over 105,000 views in two weeks (shown below, left). On November 12th, YouTuber[6] AL Medina posted a similar edit titled, "Can’t even play minecraft in ohio 💀" with the same song taken from a Not Safe video, garnering over 344,000 views in two weeks (shown below, right).
On November 16th, 2022, YouTuber[7] Grandayy posted a version of the meme, writing, "this was all done using resource pack magic," garnering over 111,000 views in five days (shown below). He also tweeted[8] the video, garnering over 62,000 views in the same span of time.
On November 19th, TikToker[9] @hamer.x posted a version of the meme, garnering over 3.3 million views in two days. On the same day, YouTuber[10] Kracc Bacc posted a version of the meme, garnering over 333,000 views in the same span of time (shown below).
