About
Cat Standing In The Snow refers to a series of image macros featuring a cat appearing to stand in a humanlike manner, standing upright on its hind legs with front legs curled such that it looks like its "hands" are on its hips, while overlooking a snowbank. The image has been commonly associated with the caption "Da fuck they doin ova der."
Origin
The earliest known post of the cat was by Redditor JoonasHe, who posted the pictureto /r/aww[1] on March 1st, 2013, where it gained over 2,700 points (shown below).
Spread
In the following months, the picture of the cat was used in numerous image macros that paired the image with captions similar to the I Should Buy a Boat Cat. The day the cat was posted to /r/aww, user Brandy_Bran posted an image macro to /r/AdviceAnimals,[3] gaining over 1,300 points (shown below, left). The cat was also commonly depicted with photoshopped overalls. On May 12th, 2013 a Reddit post in /r/funny[2] referenced the "I should buy a boat" meme, gaining over 1,600 points (shown below, right).
The cat in overalls would later go on to be the subject of an image macro with the cat saying "Da fuck they doin ova der?", which in itself would become a popular reaction image. While its unclear where these iterations began, examples can be found as early as September of 2018, when on September 4th, Twitter user @_NotoriousTaco[4] used the image (shown below, left). It has since become the most popular iteration of the template. One popular example is a Reddit post by user capyashraj07 in /r/memes[5] that gained over 28,000 points (shown below, right).
