The rumors about celebrities supposedly deleting Twitter posts emerged after R&B artist Usher seemingly deleted his Twitter presence on September 22nd, 2024, as did singer P!nk and actress Megan Fox. However, Usher came forward saying that his Twitter was hacked and that all his tweets are back up again, while Megan Fox is reported to have left Twitter back in 2013. Late on September 21st, 2024, various Twitter (now called X) users made posts about how Usher supposedly deleted thousands of tweets from his account. X^[1] user @vrotocol was one of the first to make a notable post about the supposed wipe of Usher's account, while X^[2] user @GeneralMCNews posted a screen recording showing how none of the singer's tweets were accessible at the time.

On September 22nd, X user Matt Wallace^[3] tweeted, "Usher just deleted all of his tweets. The Diddy tapes are about to send hundreds of celebrities to prison," gathering over 379,000 likes in a day.

As word of the rumor continued to spread online in late September 2024, accounts like X's @DailyLoud^[4] and Facebook's^[5] MadChillTV made posts about Usher supposedly deleting all his tweets on September 22nd, 2024, gathering over 19,000 and 1,000 likes, respectively, in one day.

The rumor was also reposted to Reddit's /r/popculturechat^[9] on September 22nd, where it gathered over 3,700 upvotes in a day. Redditor /u/ILikePlayingDressUp also posted to the subreddit /r/OutOfTheLoop^[10] asking why Usher was deleting his tweets on September 22nd, gathering over 1,000 upvotes in a day.

Many internet users theorized that Usher might be deleting his tweets to erase evidence that implicates him in Diddy's arrest, given a February 2024 rumor that Diddy exploited Usher in his youth.

Some X users began to involve other celebrities in the rumor, as seen in a September 22nd, 2024, post by X^[6] user @atensnut, who wrote, "Has Taylor started deleting yet?" alongside a photo of Taylor Swift posing with Diddy. The post gathered over 52,000 likes in a day.
