Choque da Uva is a video posted on Youtube 3/12/2007 that shows a brazilian reporter, called Lasier Martins, being shocked while grabing some grapes at a Wine Festival in Caxias do Sul, Brazil.
The incident happened in 1998 during a live transmission of Jornal do Almoço, a regional TV news show. The comical effect of the video resides not only on the shock itself, but the reaction of the news anchor, who, in her confusion, tries to keep the tv show going like nothing had happened.
The Youtube video had over 1 million viewers during his first year, mostly brazilians. In september 3rd, 2008, the blog Boing Boing posted a subtitled version of the video, dragging more public attention to it.
Lasier Martins, in a interview to the site Globo.com, stated that he didn't like the infamous incident being published on the internet. "Youtube isn't funny", said Lasier during the interview.
However, internet users didn't agree with Lasier's opinon on the capacity of Youtube to instigate laughs, and the Choque da Uva video got more and more viewers during the 2 years it has been posted. Versions of Choque da Uva with Gyoday (from Jaspion) and remixes of his painful scream has been made and posted since then.
