About
Chunibyo Opening Parodies (Japanese: 中二病でもOPパロ), refer to a series of parody videos for the opening theme from a TV anime series for a Japanese light novel Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions produced by Kyoto Animation. People had been posting parody videos to the Japanese video sharing service Nico Nico Douga (NND) in 2012 – 2013.
Origin
This TV anime series was aired from Octover 2012 to December 2012. The song used in the opening movie is "Sparkling Daydream" produced by Japanese female singer and songwriter ZAQ.[1] One of the highlights in this movie by Kyoto Animation is its unique rendition which frequently switches left and right frames along with that high-speed song. And the other is Rikka's adorable finger spin which appears from 0:58 in this video below.
Spread
In the same manner as Kyoto Animation's previous products The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Lucky Star, K-ON! and Nichijou, this opening theme movie was immediately set to a subject for fan works by NND users. And most of them are parody videos reproducing the original rendition by their favorite characters. The most faous early instance in this series is Puella Magi Madoka Magaica which was posted to NND on October 15th, 2012. Over 300 of parody videos had been uploaded to NND during the anime's airing period.[2]
Rikka's Finger Spin
The scene where Rikka Takanashi spins her two index fingers was one of the most favoured scenes by fans, and there are many parodies and tributes for the finger spin by amatuer illustrators in online communities.
