Cock and Ball Torture, also known as CBT, is a sexual activity involving the application of pain or constriction to the male genitals. Since 2010, the audio narration of the Wikipedia article on the subject has been used as a pranking device, as well as a copypasta. In January 2019, posts using the phrase "cock and ball torture" as a punchline saw a surge in popularity on iFunny, Instagram and Reddit.

Origin

On July 10th, 2004, an unlogged Wikipedia^[1] user created an entry for cock and ball torture, a sexual activity involving the application of pain to the male genitals. On March 14th, 2010, Wikipedia^[2] user FSII uploaded an audio narration of the "Cock and Ball Torture" entry performed by Alabaster Constantine III to the website (available below).

This may involve directly painful activities, such as wax play, genital spanking, squeezing, ball-busting, genital flogging, urethral play, tickle torture, erotic electrostimulation or even kicking.

Since the upload, the narration has been used as a pranking device. For example, on February 22nd, 2015, Coub^[3] user idiot joke teen uploaded a video of several teenagers listening to the recording in an elevator. Starting in 2015, the Wikipedia article on the subject was circulated as a copypasta on Reddit^[4][5], while also appearing on other platforms^[6][7].

On July 26th, 2016, Twitter^[12] account @cockandballbot was launched, posting quotes from the Wikipedia entry on the cock and ball torture every day. Since its launch, the bot has posted over 32,700 tweets containing quotes from the article.

On January 24th, 2017, YouTube^[8] user Tanyathsus posted the audio narration from Wikipedia to the website, where it gained over 18,000 views in two years. One upvoted comment^[9] under the video claimed that "kids used to play [the audio] on random computers in middle school".

On May 7th, 2017, Instagram^[10] user seth.v.2 uploaded a four-panel "The Girl Reading This" meme featuring character Steve from Minecraft. Between May 7th and June 2nd, 2017, an unknown Instagram user re-edited the seth.v.2's post, replacing the last panel with an image of Minecraft Steve stabbing the Minecraft character Herobrine against the backdrop of the Wikipedia entry for cock and ball torture. On June 2nd, 2017, Redditor^[11] PKNessStorm uploaded the edited meme to /r/4PanelCringe subreddit where it gained over 900 upvotes in six months.

On March 16th, 2018, an unlogged Imgur^[13] user uploaded an edited version of the cover for Crash Team Racing video game with words "CTR: Crash Team Racing" replaced with "CBT: Cock and Ball Torture". On June 5th, 2018, Redditor^[14] The_Great_Curve posted a photoshopped image of Peter Griffin arranging a CBT session to /r/okbuddyretard subreddit. The post gained over 220 upvotes in six months.

Starting in December 2018, images in which various individuals expressed disappointment at the fact that there would be no cock and ball torture saw a surge in popularity on Instagram and on /r/okbuddyretard subreddit.
