On 4chan, many interpreted Eric Paddock's behavior as erratic and specifically drew attention to comments he made about his brother getting expensive meals "comped" at various places in Las Vegas.

On October 3rd, 2017, CBSN News released an interview with Eric Paddock outside of his home (shown below). In the interview, Paddock makes various statements about his brother's wealth, revealing that he spent large amounts of money gambling in Las Vegas and was given complimentary food, drinks and lodging (shown below).

On October 5th, YouTuber NHC NEGRO uploaded a montage of clips from the video titled "Best Moments of Eric Paddock Interviews" (shown below). Within 48 hours, the video received upwards of 70,400 views and 420 comments.

On October 6th, 4chan user posted a thread titled "Paddock memes," in which various image macros mocking the "comped" comment (shown below). In the coming days, several other "comped threads" were submitted to the /pol/ board.^[2][3][4]
