Origin

On September 2nd, 2021, TikToker^[1] @r33sq posted a video in which she answers questions left to her as comments on a previous video. The second question in the video is, "Is Japanese a hard language?" She responds with an attempt at saying "That's what I heard," in Japanese, which sounds like, "Sucky tan ducky doo." The video garnered over 18 million views in five years, with many of the top commenters joking about "sucky tan ducky doo" and the TikToker faking Japanese.

The video was reposted numerous times over the following years, also becoming the subject of memes. For example, on July 16th, 2023, TikToker^[2] @randomtiktokdump reposted it with the caption, ""whats a cultrually significant moment that you still quote regularly?" garnering over 3.3 million views in two years. On November 13th, TikToker^[3] @1234eeii reposted it to over 2.2 million views in two years.

On April 14th, 2024 TikToker^[4] @mralozai.ipa posted a video of themselves finding and playing the video on their old cellphone, writing, "HELPP I WAS LOOKING ON MY OLD PHONE AND FOUND THIS MASTERPIECE," garnering over 3 million views in a year.

On May 16th, 2025, X^[5] user @banzyoptics posted, "is japanese a hard language," garnering about 30 likes in a month. On June 12th, X^[6] user @as__sterr__ quoted the post with an image of a baby sucking its thumb, a woman tanning, a rubbery ducky and a blade of grass covered in dew, meant to be read, "Sucky tan ducky dew," garnering over 63,000 likes and 6,900 reposts in a day.
