About

Copper is is a soft, reddish metal that is usually within the Earth's crust. In the periodic table of elements, it has the atomic symbol Cu and the atomic number 29. It is usually used to create blue or green pigments or combined with other metals (such as tin or zinc) to make useful alloys.

History

Discovery

It is estimated that copper was first discovered in 9000 BCE in the Middle East.

Bronze Age

The Bronze Age began at about 3700-3300 BCE, when the Greeks found out that they could make a durable metal by smelting copper and zinc together. The Bronze Age ended at about 2000 BCE, when the Iron Age began.

Usage

Copper has many uses. It is usually used to make pennies, wires, brass instruments, and jewelery.
