On February 19th, 2025, TikTok^[1] user @aunaturalelipbutterbalms stitched a now-deleted WSJ video featuring journalist Cordilia James commenting about a bird flu epidemic in the United States. Without directly commenting on James' wig, the creator said, "Now ya'll know ya'll wrong," suggesting others have also noticed the reporter's wig. The video received over 2 million plays and 65,000 likes in two weeks.

WSJ's^[2] TikTok account has since deleted or turned off the comments on all videos featuring journalist Cordilia James.

Jokes about the WSJ journalist's wigs were popularized on TikTok in the following weeks as users created parody videos or reaction content mocking her videos posted on the tabloid's account.

For instance, on February 22nd, 2025, TikTok^[3] user @pakistani_dramas_channel posted a montage featuring some of the wigs worn by Cordilia James (seen below), amassing more than 2 million plays and 5,600 likes in a week.

On February 25th, 2025, TikTok^[4] user @studio.symone posted a video in defense of the WSJ reporter, stating that she "is someone we should be uplifting and reading within the space." The video received more than 1.9 million plays and 141,000 likes in four days.
