About
The Cricket / Frog In My Hand TikTok Trend is a trend where one person tells a second person that they have a cricket or frog on their hand when they clearly don't and makes them "watch the cricket jump." After the cricket "jumps," the first person hands the cricket's "invisible jacket" to the second person and makes the cricket jump again, then asks the second person if they believe there is a cricket in their hand. When they say no, the first person asks why they're holding the jacket. The trend became popularized on TikTok in November 2022.
Origin
On November 11th, 2022, TikToker[1] @jennaameedi posted a video using TikTok's Voice Changer in which she plays a game with a boy. She tells him there's a cricket in her palm. He realizes there's not, but she tells him to watch it jump. She then asks him to hold the cricket's jacket and hands him an invisible jacket. She then asks if he thinks there's a cricket in her hand and he says no, resulting in her asking, "why are you holding his jacket?" The video gained over 33,800 views in five days (shown below).
