Croissant Emoji on TikTok or Croissant Army refers to the spamming of the Croissant emoji (🥐) on TikTok videos, mostly by users in emergency services like EMTs and firefighters. The trend was started by users @spectrexxxx and @thesleepyparamedic in late December 2022 and increased in early January 2023 as he started directing his followers to spam the emoji on videos, calling them the "Croissant Army."
Origin
On December 23rd, 2022, TikToker[1] @thesleepyparamedic, a paramedic, posted a video responding to a comment by @spectrexxxx consisting of a single Croissant emoji. In the video, @thesleepyparamedic asks the user why he keeps commenting the emoji on his videos. As a result, viewers spammed the Croissant emoji in the video's comment section. The video gained over 140,000 views in two weeks (shown below, left). On December 27th, he posted a video to TikTok[2] acknowledging the spam and announcing Croissant-related merch, garnering over 140,000 views in a similar span of time (shown below, right).

His viewers continued spamming the emoji on his videos, referring to themselves as the Croissant Army. The army also started spamming other people's comment sections with Croissants, particularly those in emergency services. On December 29th, 2022, the TikToker[3] posted a video revealing he contacted @spectrexxxx, who told him he started commenting the emoji because he's an EMT who likes bread. On December 30th, he posted a video to TikTok[4] announcing Croissant Army merch. Soon, he started to direct his followers to specific pages. For example, on January 2nd, 2023, the TikToker[5] posted a video directing the army to @FireDeptChronicles, a firefighter (shown below).

Throughout January 2023, TikTokers who were victims of the spam started posting videos asking why they were being spammed with Croissant emojis. For example, on January 5th, two separate TikTokers[6][7] posted videos like this, garnering over 121,000 and 47,000 views respectively in a day (shown below, left and right).

On the same day, TikToker[8] @thesleepyparamedic posted a video directing the Croissant Army to YouTuber Hank Green's TikTok page, garnering over 143,000 views in a day. The army began posting croissants under his most recent videos (shown below).
