DaBaby Slaps a Woman refers to rapper DaBaby assaulting a female fan before a concert by slapping her after she waved her phone into the rapper's face. The assault became a subject of discussions and memes online.

Origin

On March 7th, 2020, Instagram[1] user t9bitxh shared footage of rapper DaBaby slapping a woman before his concert at Whiskey North, Tampa. In the footage, the rapper, dressed in a red hoodie and a coat, slaps a woman in the crowd after she waves her phone into the rapper's face (footage shown below).

Following the incident, the crowd booed DaBaby, with the rapper leaving the concert without performing a single song.[3]

Spread

Following the incident, the footage received viral spread online. On March 8th, Twitter[2] account The Neighborhood Talk @TNHTalk shared the video of the incident, with the footage gaining over 950,700 views, 3,000 retweets and 9,900 likes in two days. On March 8th, TMZ[3] and Daily Mail[4] reported about the incident.

Starting on March 8th, 2020, users on Twitter and Instagram posted memes about the incident. For example, on March 8th, 2020, Twitter[5] user @da_chieff_2 posted a meme in which he compared DaBaby to Chris Brown, with the post gaining over 9,000 retweets and 29,400 likes in one day (shown below, top). A same-day joke about DaBaby appearing on Red Table Talk by Twitter user @AyeeKay40seven[6] gained over 40,200 retweets and 150,400 likes in the same period (shown below, bottom).

On March 8th, 2020, DaBaby shared an Instagram story in which he apologized to the woman whom he hit. On the same day, TMZ[3] reported that Tyronesha Laws, the woman who was slapped, hired a lawyer.

I do sincerely apologize. I do. I’m very sorry that there was a female on the other end of that flashlight on their phone. But you know, keep in mind, I couldn’t see you because you got the flash this close to me."
