Ironic DaBaby Memes refers to a series of ironic memes featuring rapper DaBaby. The format utilizes images and the name of the rapper in humorous ways and includes several notable sub-memes such as DaBaby Convertible, DaBaby's Finger Guns and his "Let's Go" lyric.

Origin

Ironic DaBaby memes stem from comparisons between American rapper DaBaby's head shape and Chrysler PT Cruiser, first drawn in April 2019 by an unknown person. On April 10th and 19th, Twitter^[1][2] users @FiddleStackss and @los_draco made the earliest tweets mentioning such comparisons. On May 29th, 2019, Twitter^[3] user @kitchbecool posted a viral tweet containing an image of DaBaby's head and a Chrysler PT Cruiser that received over 7,600 retweets and 26,200 likes in two years (shown below). The still image originates from a YouTube^[26] video "Nardwuar vs. DaBaby," uploaded on March 24th, 2019.

The meme received viral spread online in the following days, with users posting jokes about the perceived similarity between DaBaby's head shape and PT Cruiser on social media.^[4][5] On May 29th, comedian Marcus Abston posted an Instagram^[6] video in which he roasted DaBaby's by comparing his head to a PT Cruiser, Trollface, Batmobile, Eustace Bagge and other things and characters (shown below). The video received nearly 300,000 views and over 48,000 likes, with a reupload by Instagram^[7] account theshaderoom gaining an additional 295,000 likes.

On June 1st, 2019, DaBaby posted an Instagram^[8] story in which he reacted to the video, laughing at it.

While the memes about DaBaby's head shape maintained a moderate presence online in the following year, the ironic meme trend did not start until August 24th, 2020. On that day, Twitter^[9] and Instagram^[10] account @raplyricsaspics (@raplyricsasimages), admined by Twitter user @FebreezyXD,^[27] posted a two-panel Genius Lyrics Messages meme that contained a lyric from DaBaby's 2019 single "Suge"^[13] and a photoshop in which DaBaby's head was given car wheels (shown below). The post received over 50 retweets and 420 likes on Twitter and nearly 400 likes on Instagram in eight months.

Spread

In the following weeks, the meme received viral spread online. On September 1st, Facebook^[11] group Rappers In Peculiar Places reposted the image, with the post gaining over 5,500 reactions and 3,400 shares in seven months. On September 5th, 2020, iFunny^[12] user IronManLOHH reposted the meme, gaining over 580 smiles in the same period.

Prior to late November 2020, several ironic DaBaby memes went viral. For example, on September 27th, 2020, an unknown user posted a meme that was widely circulated on during that period (shown below, left). On November 5th, Facebook group Rappers In Peculiar places posted a We Fuckin on the X Bed Tonight meme that received over 1,800 reactions and 800 shares (shown below, right).

/r/DaBaby Period (November – December 2020)

In late November of 2020 subreddit /r/DaBaby ^[14] started gaining increased attention as its ironic shitpost culture became more well-known across the web. In late November and early December 2020, /r/DaBaby became a major hub for ironic shitposting about DaBaby, with multiple memes going viral. Following viral posts in which users imagined DaBaby being white and made offensive jokes (example shown below, right),^[15][16] on December 3rd, 2020, the subreddit was banned.

In the wake of the ban, subreddits /r/dababypenis^[22] and /r/DababyHentai^[23] were created.

Intermediate Period (December 2020 – January 2021)

In the weeks following the ban of /r/DaBaby subreddit, a number of memes posted in the subreddit received viral spread online through reposts on Instagram, Facebook and other social media.

During December and January 2021, Facebook group Rappers In Peculiar Places posted multiple ironic DaBaby memes, including edits of /r/DaBaby posts. For example, on December 19th, the group posted^[17] a meme that received over 3,800 reactions and 1,300 likes in three months (shown below, left). On February 3rd, the group posted^[18] a Wojak comic that gained over 3,600 reactions and 1,600 shares in one month (shown below, right).

Also during that period, several notable ironic DaBaby memes were posted on Reddit in /r/okbuddyretard and /r/dogelore subreddits.^[19][20][21]

/r/OkBuddyRetard Period and Further Spread (February – April 2021)

In February 2021, ironic Dababy memes saw a notable surge in popularity in /r/okbuddyretard subreddit, accompanied by an active spread of the memes on Instagram through both reposts and original content. For example, on February 19th, 2021, Redditor^[24] RKDreddit posted a meme that received over 15,100 upvotes in /r/okbuddyretard in one month (shown below, left). On March 4th, Redditor^[25] otomatoninhu posted a meme that gained over 8,300 upvotes prior to being removed (shown below, right).

Do I Look Like DaBaby refers to posts titled "Do I look like dababy" or in a similar way. The posts usually contain images of objects that somewhat resemble DaBaby in one way or another or people who look completely different from the rapper.

Dababybed

Dababybed refers to a viral image of a bed which cover and pillows have images of DaBaby on them.
