About

D.A.K. refers to an apocalyptic prophecy spread on 4chan that something catastrophic and possibly Nazi-related would happen on October 16th, 2016.

Origin

The origin of the D.A.K. 16-10-16 prophecy are unknown, as early threads referencing it have been deleted. Also, the meaning is a point of debate among 4chan users.[1] D.A.K. is understood to be a German acronym, but it is unclear what the letters stand for. The most popular theories of what it could stand for are "Das Armageddon Kommt" (The Armageddon Comes), or Deutsch Afrikakorps, referring to the German expeditionary force sent to Africa at the start of World War II.[2]

As for the date, 4chan users have theorized that 16-10-16 refers to an apocalyptic section of the Bible from the Book of Revelations that reads:

Revelation 16:10-16King James Version (KJV)

10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,

11 And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

12 And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared.

13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

14 For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.

16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

He also cited a translation German text in the comic that is not there. The text is a quote from Theodor Koner[4] which reads, "You're still sitting up there, you cowardly beings. Payed by the enemy, but in mockery of the people! But one day justice will rule, then the people will judge, then may God have mercy on you!" Though the text does not appear in the comic, it has been associated with the spread of D.A.K. ebilgenius compiled several more comics regarding D.A.K. in his answer.[6]

A single-serving site devoted to a D.A.K. countdown clock appeared.[5] On September 24th, a cryptic video related to D.A.K. appeared on Youtube.

I like 4chan's new take on creepypastas. Even confusing themselves in the process and nobody admitting the high possibility of it being one – it hardly gets better executed than that. This could be elaborated upon to create a new style, next time with more mystery and less memes to make it even more believable. And right on October for Halloween, too.

Better than HYPER-REALISTIC-BLOOD, for sure.
