About
Daniel Craig In A Suit refers to a photograph of British actor Daniel Craig wearing a suit and glasses, which struck many online as very different from the vibe associated with previous roles played by the actor, such as James Bond and Benoit Blanc. The photograph of Craig was compared to various figures in European banking, and compared to other highly-memed photos of Craig.
Origin
On November 17th, 2023, GQ magazine posted an interview to YouTube with Daniel Craig about his interest in wristwatches. The actor collects them, and wore many during the filming of the James Bond movies. During the interview (seen below) Craig wore wire-rimmed glasses and what appeared to be a finely tailored suit.[1]
Spread
An image from the video began circulating on X, with notable viral spread beginning on November 21st, 2023. An early post influential in its spread came from @JamesWillMarsh (seen below left) referring to Craig as "ran through," and earning over 2,700 likes and 1,700 quote tweets.[2] These quote tweets included several highly-shared posts, like the one from @taysiderinspace (seen below right) made on the same day, which earned over 78,000 likes over the course of a week.[3]
Often the memes centered around jokes about finance and Europe, with posters generally coalescing around the idea that Craig resembled a Northern European central banker. As the image continued to circulate, it was combined with others of Craig and used as a comparison point. For example, on November 22nd, @BrandyLJensen compared the image to another of Craig, characterizing them as two distinct ways of "being European" and earning over 82,000 likes in the five days that followed.[4] Other posters such as @OwenWalker0 used the image in a four-panel alongside three others of Craig. Walker described an era in the history of Credit Suisse Bank (seen below right), receiving over 5,000 likes on November 24th over the course of three days.[5]
