The original image posted on September 12 2023 seems to be an AI generated cover for a fictional story blog on Medium of a man in a suit making a deal with the devil. The extreme nature of the scene adds humour to the trivial caption which is usually telling the man to download a game or a modpack.
It was popularised as a meme in April 2024 primarily on TikTok and Reddit featuring games such as Calamity mod , Destiny 2 and RLCraft , These modpacks are very challenging to finish so the devil is tempting the man to play them as torture.
