Deku Fighting Street Tiers is a series of memes inspired by the Death Battle! episode "Spider-Man VS Deku," which pits Miles Morales' Spider-Man against Izuku "Deku" Midoriya from the My Hero Academia anime. The memes are about Deku fighting "street tier" characters, meaning characters that specialize in fighting "street level crime" and are localized to specific communities, rather than regularly taking on global threats. Some street tier characters include Daredevil, The Punisher, Spider-Man and many other traditional superheroes. Deku, who is considered above street tier, won the battle. The memes tend to depict Deku as unfairly trying to fight street tiers, believing he can easily beat them in a fight, as his powers are stronger. Another aspect of the meme plays off of a 2022 Death Battle! episode where Deku lost to Asta from Black Clover, considered a similar power level to Deku, the joke being that Deku demoted himself to fighting street tiers after losing to Asta to give himself a chance at victory.

Origin

"Street Tier" is a powerscaling term for the first tier of power. It is defined by characters who focus on "street level" threats, largely meaning localized enemies who may or may not have superhuman abilities, but are not considered world-class level threats. Many superheroes fall into this category, including Spider-Man. The exact definition of the term is often confused and debated online.^[1][2]

On July 20th, 2025, YouTuber^[3] Death Battle! posted their episode, Spider-Man VS Deku, garnering over 1.6 million views in four days. The episode pits Miles Morales' Spider-Man, considered a street-tier hero, against Deku, considered above street tier due to the destructive power of his superhuman abilities. Deku ultimately wins the battle.

After the episode's premiere, the Death Battle! fandom began posting memes about Deku fighting street tiers, many portraying him as preying on street tiers so he can get easy wins. One of the earliest examples was posted by Redditor u/Kakashi_of_the_leaf_ to the /r/DeathBattle^[4] subreddit the day the video released in a post titled, "Another street tier to the roster. Can't stop punching down can he?" garnering over 1,200 upvotes in four days.

In a previous Death Battle! episode from 2022,^[5] Deku was pitted against Asta from Black Clover, who is considered to be around the same power tier as Deku,^[6] and lost, playing into the joke that after losing to Asta, Deku decided to only fight street tier characters to give him a chance at victory.

The memes about Deku fighting street tiers continued to spread over the following days, mostly on X and Reddit. On July 20th, 2025, X^[7] user @ToxicWeave posted an image of the My Hero Academia cast, writing, "This is the tale… of how we jump street tiers!" garnering over 11,000 likes in four days.

Shortly after, X^[8] user @Tesso_dan posted an image of Deku, writing, "HUFF… HUFF… BRING ME MORE STREET TIERS… DAREDEVIL!! BLACK WIDOW! WHERE ARE YOU!!!" garnering over 42,000 likes in four days.

It was reposted to the /r/PowerScaling^[9] subreddit on July 21st via a post asking what "street tier" means, garnering over 700 upvotes in three days.

Also on July 21st, Redditor u/whowouldcirclejerk posted a collection of memes related to Deku fighting street tiers to the /r/whowouldcirclejerk^[10] subreddit, garnering over 2,000 upvotes in three days.

Later that day, X^[11] user @dergulino quoted the post by @Tesso_dan with a meme about Deku fighting Word Girl, garnering over 38,000 likes in three days.

On July 22nd, 2025, @Tesso_dan's X post was reposted to the /r/powerscaling^[12] subreddit via a post titled, "Street tiers that Izuku Midoriya can beat," garnering over 1,900 upvotes in two days. On July 23rd, X^[13] user @TheSourceLoses posted a meme playing into the street tiers format that gained over 19,000 likes in a day.
