About

Delícias da Eleni's Rejected Salad refers to a series of ironic memes about an uneaten salad in this cooking influencer Dona Eleni's videos on TikTok. The consistently uneaten salad in her video inspired Brazilians to create POV videos as the salad in skits.

Origin

Dona Eleni is a housewife from São Paulo, Brazil, who has been showing the meals she cooks for her family and friends to 2 million followers on TikTok[1] and 217,000 subcribers on her YouTube[2] channel. On August 9th, 2021, Dona Eleni posted the first video showing what she had cooked for her family and said "there's a salad, but I don't want it", which got 1 million views and 365,000 likes in almost a year.

Eleni then continued to deny putting the salad on her plate for several videos and users began to notice her behavior, flooding her comment section videos on TikTok.[3]

One of the first video parodies about the salad was posted on March 28th, 2022, by @gabrielycs, where she gattered several clips of Dona Eleni denying the salad dish with the caption on the video "me every day during lunch." The post got 4,000 views in four months.

Spread

On July 7th, TikToker[4] henrytado posted a POV video as the rejected salad that was later an inspiration for another POV viral video about the salad created by orlandoberaldo on July 9th, 2022. The video got 1 million views and 220,000 in five days.

After that, the so-called "salad lore" expanded and other creators posted similar POV videos. Edits with sad songs about the rejected meal also appeared on the app. Some created videos humorously defending the salad's "feelings" and canceling the housewife, such as a July 9th, 2022 video by toxicbya, where he used Billie Eilish's "Everything I Wanted" focusing on the rejected salad. The post received 3 million views and 542,000 likes in three days.

The salad is now being used as a metaphor for relationships posts on Twitter and Tiktok, with captions like "feeling less appreciated than the salad at Delícias da Eleni videos." On July 9th, 2022, TikToker @vamoleo posted an ironic motivational video about the rejected meal that got 382,000 views and 75,000 likes in three days.
