Do You Like Mashed Potatoes? is an exploitable image used in a series of memes based on a screenshot of a DM conversation in which one person asks another if they like mashed potatoes, the second person claims that they do like mashed potatoes and the first person responds, "that makes my tomodachi life game scary accurate bc I feed your mii mashed potatoes and be does like it." The meme was originally posted by X / Twitter user @JohnnyUtahNG in mid-March 2022 and became the subject of memes over the following years, many of which attribute characters from a variety of fandoms to each message.

Origin

On March 17th, 2022, X^[1] user @JohnnyUtahNG posted a screenshot of a DM conversation. The left participant writes, "do you like mashed potatoes." The right answers, "yes." The left then responds, "that makes my tomodachi life game scary accurate bc I feed your mii mashed potatoes and be does like it." The post gained over 61,400 likes and 5,500 reposts in three years.

Spread

The image of the Twitter / X DM messages spread over the following years, inspiring memes as users began editing the messages to include them coming from various pop culture characters.

On May 13th, 2024, X^[2] user @MaplePeache posted an edit of the image, attributing Persona 5 characters Futaba and Joker to the conversation, garnering over 23,000 likes in a year.

On August 30th, 2025, Redditor sefu_sneezed posted a version of the meme depicting an Adeptus Mechanicus tech-priest and a homebrew chapter Space Marine from Warhammer 40,000 to the /r/ImaginaryWarhammer^[3] subreddit that gained over 3,700 upvotes in two months.

On October 28th, X^[4] user @phoenixwrong404 posted a version of the meme attributing Maya and Phoenix from the Ace Attorney series to the conversation, garnering over 8,600 likes in a week.

On November 5th, 2025, X^[5] user @doughzzu quoted the post with a comic depicting the same interaction, garnering over 84,000 likes in a day.
