Me Before Seeing A Meme vs. Me After I Saw A Meme is a two-pane image macro series that depicts internet memes as a pick-me-up by illustrating one's state of mind before and after seeing an unspecified internet meme.
Origin
On November 28th, 2015, Tumblr user SpecialMemeFresh posted the first instance of the meme (shown below). The post obtained over 150,000 notes in less than a year.[1]
Spread
In March 2016, Tumblr user Leftbians[2] posted an image macro featuring the Pokemon character Shaymin, which accumulated more than 12,200 notes. On April 6th, the Shitpostbot 5000[4] Facebook page posted an instance of the meme featuring John Cena and a NERF toy gun, accruing nearly 600 likes and 100 shares, followed by a SpongeBob Squarepants-themed image macro one week later. On April 19th, Twitter user @Stiquid[3] shared an instance of the meme featuring the Pokemon character Dragonite. On July 24th, the Crippling Memes[6] Facebook page shared an image macro featuring another puppy, which garnered nearly 4,000 likes and over 1,300 shares.
