Donald Trump's Bunker refers to the underground Presidential Emergency Operations Center (PEOC) at the White House in D.C. which was used by Donald Trump and his family in late May 2020 after thousands gathered around the White House to protest the death of George Floyd. Reports of Trump relocating to the bunker caused #bunkerboy to trend on Twitter and memes to be created mocking the news.

Origin

On May 31st, 2020, The New York Times[5] first reported that Trump was briefly moved by the secret service to the bunker for about an hour on May 29th while protesters gathered outside the White House. That day, Twitter user @travisakers[1] shard the New York Times article and added the caption, "#BREAKING: President Trump was moved into the White House bunker as protesters drew closer late Sunday afternoon" (shown below). The tweet gained over 3,200 likes and 2,200 retweets in two days.

On June 1st, 2020, Twitter user vida_of_vidal[2] shared a screenshot of POEC's Wikipedia page which cites that the bunk has only been used twice in recent U.S. history. The Twitter user added "The White House bunker has been used twice in recent history. Once while we were being attacked by foreign terrorist and the second time when #BunkerTrump was afraid of some people protesting and breaking through his entire secret service. This man has no backbone" (shown below, left). The tweet garnered over 3,900 likes and 900 retweets in a day. Many other Twitter users argued over whether the moved to the bunker was necessary or not. Twitter user CharlotteBrecks[3] tweeted, "@realDonaldTrump you were a coward during the Vietnam War and you're a coward tonight, Bunker Boy. #BunkerDon #potus #DCProtests" to which Twitter user @Moogs37 replied "Literally any president would be taken to safety in this situation. Thats what the secret service is for. Dumb ass" (shown below, right).
