About

The Drinks Water Challenge is a multi-part video challenge series in which participants post videos of themselves drinking water. Typically, these installments are numbered and posted to YouTube as part of a series.

Origin

The earliest known participant of the challenge is YouTuber Jon Drinks Water. On December 4th, 2011, Jon Drinks Water posted the video "Jon Drinks Water #1," in which the participant drinks the entirety of a bottle of water. The post received more than 135,000 views in eight years (shown below).



Spread

As of April 2019, Jon Drinks Water has uploaded more than 7,700 "Jone Drinks Water" videos. He posted his most popular video on May 14th, 2015. "Jon Drinks Water #2919" received more than 140,000 views in four years (shown below, left). '

On June 27th, 2017, YouTuber Aaron Drinks Water began posting their own series of water drinking videos. Their first video received more tahn 5,000 views in two years (shown below, right).



On January 17th, 2019, YouTuber SeneralGam posted a video entitled "Drinking Alot (NOT TOO MUCH!) of Water Challenge!" The post received more than 81,000 views in less than one years (shown below).

On April 5th, 2019, the website PopBuzz[1] published an article about the challenge.

I don't… I just… what the fuck even is this "Challenge" shit anymore? Is this serious? Is this some Voltairean method of criticizing shitty internet "challenges"? Are there a select few people who just really fucking love water and jack off to thoughts of cold flavorless liquid slipping down their gullets?
