Origin

On October 24th, 2014, Dwayne Johnson tweeted[1] the picture of the two. He added the caption, "7'9 Sun Ming Ming – one of the tallest players ever. Great dude and a helluva miniature golfer." The post received more than 7,700 likes and 6,600 retweets in less than six years (shown below).

That day, Redditor [2] RidleyScotch shared the image on the /r/Funny subreddit. The post received more than 13,000 points (89% upvoted) and 555 comments in less than six years.

Two years later, iFunny [3] user Superb shared the image with the caption from Reddit, "The Rock looking more like The Pebble…" overlaid onto the photograph. The post received more than 162,000 reactions and 3,200 comments in about four years (shown below, left).

On February 10th, 2020, Twitter[4] user @markdalgleish shared the image with Johnson labeled "Front end devs" and Sun Ming Ming labeled "back end devs." The post received more than 700 likes in less than one month (shown below, center).

That month, the image inspired a number of object labeling memes. For example, on February 19th, Redditor[5] ImBlueBoi shared another object labeling variation. The post received more than 48,000 points (98% upvoted) and 185 comments in less than one month (shown below, right).
