About

Elementary School Drumline Warm-Up Packets refers to a series of videos showcasing impossibly difficult drumline and band cadences labeled ironically as "elementary school warm-up packets." The cadences are presented via the free composition program Musescore, and occasionally include references to well-known meme songs. YouTuber Parker Meek began the trend in mid-2018.

Origin

On September 8th, 2018, YouTuber[1] and drummer Parker Meek uploaded a video titled, "EZ Elementary school warm-up" (shown below). The video consists of sheet music for an absurd drumline played through Musescore that becomes increasingly more impossible as it goes. The composition features comedic footnotes throughout the margin like "play with right hand only." The video gained over 663,000 views in three years.

Spread

Meek continued to post videos to YouTube but didn't make another drumline warm-up until 2021. On March 13th, 2021, Meek uploaded "Stony Wood Elementary Drumline warm-up packet," to YouTube,[2] a similar video showcasing a number of impossible drumline warm-ups, including one titled "Colorectal Cancer," garnering over 288,000 views in three months (shown below).

On May 12th, YouTuber[3] shgh26 posted a similar video showcasing an increasingly impossible cadence, although using a clarinet (shown below). This is one of the first videos inspired by Meek's.

On May 21st, Meek uploaded another video[4] in the series showcasing brass instrument sheet music, garnering over 131,000 views in two weeks (shown below, left). On the same day, YouTuber[5] "TD the Drummer" posted "Central Elementary School Drumline warm-up packet," garnering over 9,000 views in the same span of time (shown below, right).
