About

Elon Musk's "Fake" Gaming Video, also known as Elon Musk Playing Diablo 4 Video, refers to discussions and memes about a viral video shared by tech billionaire Elon Musk in which he is shown to be playing the ARPG Diablo IV. The video, which was posted in late March 2025, shows Musk sitting in a dim room, wearing a headset and looking around erratically at a large screen as he appears to play the video game. The clip made the rounds weeks after Musk was embroiled in a fraud gamer controversy in early 2025 when Musk admitted that his Path of Exile 2 character was being boosted by someone else. The controversy was rehashed by the official Assassin's Creed X account in late March, soon after which Musk posted a video seemingly attempting to prove his gaming chops. Several internet users questioned whether Musk was really playing the game or just watching gameplay, pointing out his erratic head movements and the fact that neither his keyboard and mouse nor his controller were visible in the video.

Origin

On March 25th, 2025, the X[1] account @teslaownersSV posted a video of Elon Musk sitting in a dark room playing the action-RPG Diablo IV on a large curved monitor sitting closely in front of him. The clip shows Musk repeatedly tapping on a keyboard or controller and moving his head around to look across the screen. The caption on the video read, "Killing the demons in a video game calms the demons in my mind." The post gathered over 3,000 likes and 400,000 views in a week.

The video was subsequently reposted by Elon Musk[2] on March 28th with the caption, "Yeah," gathering over 94 million views and 245,000 likes in three days.

Elon Musk's "Fraud Gamer" Controversy

Elon Musk "Fraud Gamer" Controversy refers to discussions about the tech billionaire supposedly faking his achievements in the RPG Path of Exile 2, specifically in the video game's hardcore mode that players only get one life in. In early January 2025, Elon Musk hosted a livestream on X / Twitter in which he claimed to have achieved a high rank and level in the game, showing off his in-game character named Percy_Verence. However, veteran Path of Exile players and YouTubers Quin69TV and Casual Kripp later posted videos analyzing his inability to use certain in-game mechanics and lack of knowledge about the game's features. Other Path of Exile players noted that publically available information showed his character being piloted from Asia and that he seemingly has a tab named "Elon's map." According to several gamers, these details indicated that Musk had likely hired another player to "grind" for him and get him a higher rank. Other streamers like Asmongold also accused Elon Musk of "account sharing" in subsequent days, leading Musk to unfollow the streamer and remove his Twitter verification badge. In a series of direct messages with Twitter user @NikoWrex, Elon Musk admitted to "account boosting" in late January 2025.
