The shooting was a murder-suicide that took place at around 7:30 p.m. (8:30 p.m. ET), on July 23rd 2015. It was carried out by gunman John Russell Houser who shot and killed 2 person, along with injuring 9 more people before committing suicide. The shooting took place at The Grand 16 Theatre on Johnston Street in Lafayette, Louisiana during the screening of the movie "Trainwreck". 2 people were found dead at the scene, however. Police claim the other body to be the gunman[1] The other eight people were quickly transferred to the hospital.

Celebrities on twitter began tweeting their condolences to the victims and their thoughts on the matter.

Many people have taken notice of the fact the it was the 204th mass shooting in American history and that it took place on the 204th day of the year. This has lead to some conspiracy theories, with people believing that the shooting was a hoax perpetrated by the American government so that the second amendment could be repealed.[4]
