Overview

2020 LA Police Commission Meeting refers to the open meeting held on Zoom and streamed live on YouTube in early June amid the 2020 George Floyd Protests. The meeting, which included the participation of Chief Police Commissioner Michael Moore, featured two-minute statements from over 80 Los Angeles residents calling for the resignation of Michael Moore. Clips of resident statements were shared on Twitter and caused quotes from the meeting and "I yield my time" to trend on Twitter.

On June 2nd, 2020, KTLA 5 began live streaming "Los Angeles Police Commission meets in wake of regional unrest" on YouTube which gained over 709,400 views in a day. After a brief statement from commission members, over 80 residents of Los Angeles made statements (shown below).

Developments

On June 2nd, 2020, Twitter user @Technibility tweeted a clip from the meeting with the caption, "'If you scare so easily, why are you police?' Sasha asks the LA Police Commission in a firey call" (shown below). The tweet gained over 6,700 likes and 3,300 retweets in a day.

That same day, Twitter user @keywilliamss tweeted another clip captioned, "LA citizens are calling in and dragging the SHIT out of the LA Police Commission" which received over 3.4 million views, 281,100 likes and 148,600 retweets in a day (shown below).

On June 3rd, 2020, "I yield my time" began trending on Twitter due to one clip of a resident yelling "I yield my time, fuck you!" Twitter user @23rdButterfly first posted the clip which garnered over 2.9 million views, 357,000 likes and 142,300 retweets in a day (shown below).

Twitter user @milansturgis[1] tweeted that "Tony hawk just got on the LA police commissions’ live meeting to say they need to remove chief moore. This meme still stands" and shared an past tweet form Tony Hawk (shown below, left). The tweet accumulated over 11,700 likes and 1900 retweets in a day. Twitter user @quiddie[2] shared the popular quote "Suck my dick And choke on it I yield my time Fuck you" as a haiku poem which garnered over 12,200 likes and 3,300 retweets in a day (shown below, right).
