Overview

German and Dutch Me_IRL Invasion refers to members of the subreddits r/ich_iel and r/ik_ihe flooding r/Me_IRL with images featuring German and Dutch text on August 8th, 2019. The "invasion" signified an end between the German r/ich_iel and Dutch r/ik_ihe feud by banning together and infiltrating the American subreddit.

Background

On August 5th, 2019, Redditor MaartenvanRossum posted an annoyed bird image to the German version of Me_IRL, r/ich_iel^[1] (shown below, left). The post gained over 4,900 points (97% upvoted) in three days. Several days later Redditor strix97 posted a translation of the meme to r/OutOfTheLoop^[2] which was "Me: 'I'm going to make a funny Dutch meme and post it on ich_iel' Iec_iel comments: 'No, speak German you son of a bitch, I don't understand frikandelenbroodje' 'Sprich Deutsch Hurensohn' is a German inside joke, frikandellenbroodjes are a Dutch fast food delicacy and a dutch meme in its own right."

Notable Developments

Following the post on August 5th, 2019, Redditors posting to the German and Dutch Me_IRL subreddits, r/ich_iel and r/ik_ihe began feuding through memes. On August 7th, Redditor ddominnik posted a message to r/ich_iel^[3] which signified a declaration of war saying that the Dutch would flood the German subreddit. The post garnered over 5,100 points (88% upvoted) in a day. That same day, Killed_Mufasa uploaded an image to r/ich_iel^[4] which commented on penis size (shown below, right). The post received over 1,900 points (91% upvoted) in a day.

On August 7th, Redditor Chadd-ThunderCock uploaded an image to r/ik_ihe^[5] of the Dutch and German fighting together to attack the American subreddit Me_IRL (shown below, left). The post gained over 3,500 points (98% upvoted) in a day. The next day, Redditor pm-me-anythin-u-like posted a message to the German subreddit from the Netherlands requesting an alliance to r/ich_iel^[6] (shown below, right). The post accumulated over 4,800 points (94% upvoted) in a day. My the morning of August 8th, Me_IRL was flooded with images featuring Dutch and German text.
