Joel "Do a 180" Embiid refers to a question given by contestant Paul Trifiletti[2] on the game show Jeopardy, when the answer posed, was "Joel Embiid in 2019 won the trademark for his nickname of his that also describes the 76ers' strategy of improving the team." Basketball player Joel Emibiid's nickname "The Process" being the correct response, inspired commentary and mocking on Twitter in March 2020.

Background

On March 4th, 2020, Twitter user @iamsamkeller[1] uploaded a clip of the Jeopardy episode with the caption "ah yes the classic nickname, Joel “do-a-180” Embiid" (shown below). The tweet gained over 46,700 likes and 7,500 retweets in two days.

On March 4th, 2020, Twitter user @okcsucksass posted a picture of a coach and basketball player looking up with the caption, "'strategy of improving the team' 'do a 180' (shown below). The tweet garnered over 1,500 likes in two days.

That same day, Joel Emiid changed his Twitter handle to JOËL “DO A 180” EMBIID?? and acknowledged the Jeopardy moment in a post of himself spinning on the court (shown below). The video garnered over 115,500 likes and 16,000 retweets in two days. CNN[3] published an article on the gaffe.
