About:
Paul Gosar’s Attack on Titan is about Arizona Congressman Paul Gosar posted an anime-themed video depicting him attacking prominent Democrat politicians to his Twitter account on Sunday, November 7. The video itself being another version of an Attack on Titan Opening Credits Parodies which were very popular in 2012.
Background
The 92-second-long clip – which was posted with the text “Any anime fans out there?” – features images of Gosar and other GOP politicians edited and Photoshopped into the season one opening of Attack on Titan. In the video, Gosar becomes the show’s protagonist Eren Yaeger and slays a giant monster (or “titan”) resembling New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and attacks Joe Biden who is made to symbolize the Beast Titan. The video was uploaded to YouTube[1] by the account Super Mario Galaxy 3 on November 8th, 2021, and has received 40,000 views in one month (shown below).
The tweet was summarily flagged by Twitter as being against proper conduct policy, but that they would still leave it up as an important topic of discussion. Apart from the obvious issues with having Republican politicians depicted as killing and physically assaulting politicians across the aisle, the video also features a prominent anti-immigrant bent, including footage of migrants crossing the border between the U.S. and Mexico, as well as officials from U.S. Customs and Border Protection flying helicopters, using high-tech surveillance gear, or zooming around the desert on quad cycles. A response was tweeted out by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on November 8th, 2021, in which she condemns Paul and the video, earning 135k likes in one month on her initial tweet (shown below).

Censured
On November 17th, 2021, a vote was held inside the The House, with a 223 to 207 vote going in favor of censuring Gosar as punishment for the video he shared. In this context, Censure meant removing Gosar from committees where he was working, with his open spot being taken by a different representative from Congress. Following the Censure, it was reported by Twitter[2] user @NickMartin that Paul Gosar retweeted someone who posted the video again, which politically was seen as an act of bad faith (shown below).
