Overview
#SlutStreamDay is a Twitch fundraising event to benefit Freedom 4/24, an organization which supports victims of sexual exploitation and sex trafficking. The event was started by Twitch streamer KaceyTron in July 2019 in order to raise awareness for those streamers affected by sexual harassment on Twitch. On July 30th, 2019 numerous streamers used the hashtag to gather funds for Freedom 4/24 and raise awareness.
Background
On January 22nd 2018, Twitch Streamer KaceyTron[1] tweeted "If you are a female considering getting into streaming on twitch, don’t have any reservations about wearing revealing clothing if you want to; you’re going to be called a tit streamer and a camwhore by this community no matter what you wear bc a lot of them are inherently sexist" (shown below, left). The tweet gained over 7,600 likes in a year and a half. She has been know for speaking out against slut-shaming but it wasn't until July 8th, 2019 when she voiced in a tweet that "It would be really cool if all female streamers could arrange a day where we dress slutty and put #slutstream in our title, we can raise awareness about the sexism we face for being comfortable with our sexuality while also pissing off legions of incels" (shown below, right).[2] The tweet gained over 3,700 likes in a month.
On July 14th, @kaceytron[3] announced that on July 30th, #slutstream which would encourage female streamers to raise money for the Freedom 4/24[5] which fights sex trafficking (shown below). The tweet gained only 120 likes in a 17 days.
Notable Developments
On July 30th, 2019, Isabella O'Hammon,[4] Kaceytron's partner in the project, announced the start of #SlutStreamDay and provided fundraising links (shown below). The tweet gained 24 likes that day.
On July 29th, KaceyTron began streaming about the event that would take place the next day (shown below). The stream gathered over 32.4 million views in a day.
On July 30th, 2019, Female Twitch users began streaming and using the #SlutStream hashtag and work raise funds. One example being, Smartertusername (shown below) who streamed for several hours and gained over 30,000 views that day. Some people in the chat, like the1son987, said things like "You know… Showing more skin will only provoke more people to be only interested in your body rather than what you have to say. Whatever gets you viewers I guess…"
