Overview

Unus Annus Channel Shutdown refers to a YouTube channel that was deleted by popular YouTubers Markiplier and CrankGameplays [1][2][3]. They deleted the channel during a live stream on November 14th 2020, with lots of people reuploading the stream or reacting to Markiplier and CrankGameplays deleting their channel on the livestream. The twist of the channel is that it will be deleted after one year and all the content will be gone ("Unus Annus" translates to "one year" in Latin).

Background

On November 13th 2020, Unus Annus posted an 11 hour livestream in which they talk about why the channel is deleting and reacting to their old videos. The livestream ended the same time when the channel was deleted. After the channel was deleted and the live stream ended, Other YouTubers was posting the full live stream and making edits (popular livestream re-upload shown below). [4]

Developments

As it's deleted channel on YouTube, people joked about the channel not being deleted or reacting to the channel being deleted with reaction images. On October 24th, 2020, Game Theory or MatPat posted a game theory (shown below) titled Game Theory: The Hidden Code of Unus Annus (Markiplier & CrankGamePlays) In which he explains the channel and why they deleted it. The theory hit 3.9 million views in 9 months. [5]

On November 14th, Twitter user Brooke Heart (BrookeHeart5) Brooke Heart tweeted an image of the livestream with 1,497,192 people watching the livestream (shown below) with the caption "This is what I saw on my TV once the goodbye stream was over. Also, I just noticed that there were 1,497,912 people watching the stream when it ended. That's incredible. #UnusAnnus." [6]
