Overview

Virgil Texas Grooming Allegation refers to an accusation against popular left-wing podcaster and former Chapo Trap House host Virgil Texas, which alleges that he engaged in sexual online communication with an underage girl. The controversy became a widespread discussion in early June 2021.

Background

On June 9th, 2021, Twitter user @JenniferSeberg[1] posted a lengthy thread in which she related how she and Virgil Texas communicated while she was underage. In the thread, she alleged the two FaceTimed often and she believed they were in an adult relationship "as he requested things of that nature from me." She alleges the conversations took place in 2013 when she would have been 16 or 17. She claims The Daily Caller reached out to her to try and have her expose him in the past, but she declined to come forward. She later clarified that Virgil had requested nudes from her.[2]

Developments

The allegation received mixed responses from Twitter users. Many expressed their support for the accuser while decrying Virgil Texas, with some saying that he had been a rumored groomer for years. Twitter user @nariokohomeboy[3] tweeted to the accuser, "I'm sorry to read about this experience you had. And the reaction you got from that woman is awful too. Thank you for coming forward with this, it's brave, necessary, and will be very helpful for women out there. Take good care of yourself" (shown below, left). Later, @Sadydoyle[4] tweeted, "I'm not going to try to be witty, just say that the Virgil Texas allegations have been semi-public for a long time. Even so, the victim's fear of coming forward for how she'd either be used as a Republican talking point or condemned as an enemy of the Left is very understandable" (shown below, right).

Virgil Texas has yet to respond to the allegations, nor have the Chapo Trap House hosts or Texas' current podcast co-host, Briahna Gray Joy. The story was also covered by the Daily Dot.[5]
