World War I, also known as The Great War was a global conflict that began in the summer of 1914 and ended On November 11th 1918. Individual conflicts took place across the globe, with the most infamous in pop culture being the Western Front in Western and Central Europe.

The war saw the widespread use of planes in combat, the introduction of tanks, the use of poison gas, gas masks, and trench warfare.

The Red Baron

Manfred von Richthofen, more well-known as The Red Baron was a German fighter pilot in WWI who notably flew a bright red Fokker Dr.I triplane. He is considered one of the most famous pilots of all time, being credited with 80 air combat victories before being shot down and killed on April 21st 1918. [4]

His presence in popular culture is notable in the Peanuts series as an antagonist to Snoopy, as well as the mascot for the Red Baron Pizza brand. [5]
