About

Extreme Cut Out Jeans are denim pants by Los Angeles-based brand Carmar Denim with most of the fabric cut away, exposing nearly all of one's leg. The pants, which retail at $168, were mocked online for the look and for the high price.

History

On April 30th, 2018, Carmar Denim began advertising their "Extreme Cut Out Pant" on social media. Their first Instagram post featuring the pants gained over 1,100 likes[1] (shown below). They describe the target audience for the pants as "for those who dare to bare."

There are also several photographs of a model in the jeans on the company's website[2] (shown below).

In the days after the post, the jeans caught the attention of media outlets. The first major publication to cover the jeans was Insider.[3] The same day, Twitter Moments[4] covered social media reactions to the jeans and the reactions to Insider's tweet of their article (examples shown below).

Carmar Denim took the backlash to their product in stride. Responding to The Insider's tweet, they tweeted "It's a look." Responding to a tweet by news.com.au, they stated "Because we can laugh at ourselves, too… And no, they're not a joke they're real 😂" (shown below).
