Fat Lizzo or I Hate You Fat Lizzo refers to a viral video posted to Instagram stories by Azealia Banks, in which the controversial rapper attacks American musician Lizzo, seemingly unprovoked, repeatedly calling her "fat Lizzo," stating," I hate you fat Lizzo." The clip, which was posted sometime in early 2020, would circulate on pop-music-oriented online spaces, such as Stan Twitter, and music-centric subreddits, like /r/popheadcirclejerk, for several years before Lizzo herself would acknowledge the mean-spirited nickname in 2026.

Origin

Sometime in 2020, rapper Azealia Banks posted a rant about Lizzo, whom she felt occupied a space in pop culture that would be better suited for fellow rapper CupcakKe. A reupload of the video, posted on February 27th, 2020, by YouTuber^[1] @itsPaulLucas, which received over 433,000 views in about six years.

Spread

Once posted, screen recordings and reuploads of the video began spreading around social media in the 2020s.

On May 7th, 2021, TikTok^[2] @stunnin.salty.sack posted a video referencing the Instagram rant, which received over 288,100 views and 73,900 likes in about five years.

The video continued to be referenced throughout the following years. On January 16th, 2023, TikTok^[3] user @steeb_ posted a clip, captioned, "Azelia banks to Lizzo when cuppcake didn't blow up before." The post received over 2.3 million views and 144,400 likes in about three years.

On August 2nd, 2023, TikTok^[4] user @ivstincts posted the original clip with the caption, "me if I was one of Lizzo's dancers," in reference to the controversy surrounding the musician after reports surfaced detailing a lawsuit filed against the singer by three of her former dancers over alleged sexual harassment and a hostile work environment in July 2023. The video received over 967,900 views and 176,300 likes in less than three years.

2026 Resurgence

On May 15th, 2026, over six years since the initial "Fat Lizzo" comment, Lizzo acknowledged the nickname on her X^[5] / Twitter account, @lizzo, writing, "I like when azealia banks calls me ‘fat lizzo’… it’s endearing." The post received over 5.5 million views and 32,000 likes in about four days.

Later that day, Azealia Banks responded to the comment, quoting the original post on her X^[6] account, @iiwasinthee212, simply writing, "Work fat lizzo." The reply received over 4.3 million views and 101,000 likes in about four days, indicating a clear ratio.
