Album Is Cancelled. I Need Some Time to Relax and Bounce On Dick refers to an Instagram Story post by rapper Azealia Banks in which she announces that she's canceled her album Fantasea II: The Second Wave, writing that she needs "some time to relax and bounce on dick" and that she will "release new music when I feel like it." The post was made in mid-July 2018 and gained viral spread over the following years, inspiring exploitable memes that attribute the post to other musical artists and people.
Origin
On July 15th, 2018, rapper Azealia Banks made a post to her Instagram Story announcing the cancelation of her album Fantasea II: The Second Wave, consisting of text over a wall of static reading, "Album is cancelled. I need some time to relax and bounce on dick. I'll release new music when I feel like it ….." The Story was reposted to the subreddit /r/popheads[1] that day, garnering around 100 upvotes in six years. It was also reported on by NME[2] on July 16th.
Spread
The post gained viral spread over the following years and began to inspire memes in 2023. For example, on July 18th, 2023, a screenshot of the Story was posted to the subreddit /r/popheadscirclejerk[3] that blanks out the name, asking viewers to guess who it is, garnering over 160 upvotes in a year. On September 8th, X[4] user @bklynb4by posted the screenshot, writing, "I love how we can instantly tell who this is," garnering over 64,000 likes in 10 months (shown below).
On September 13th, Redditor u/smugzuck posted the meme to /r/tylerthecreator,[5] writing, "In Tyler’s newest insta story he canceled Welcome to the Disco," garnering over 2,200 upvotes in 10 months. On April 21st, 2024, X[6] user @staticbluebat quote-reposted the post by @bklynb4by, writing, "Bob Dylan" as a suggestion for who could have written the Story, garnering over 39,000 likes in three months (shown below, left).
On June 28th, 2024, X[7] user @Poo_Crave posted an edit of the Story that makes it appear as if Joe Biden canceled a debate, garnering over 5,600 likes in roughly two weeks (shown below, right).
