Faunazon

About

Faunazon is a Fakemon which first appeared on the 4chan board /vp/. It has been the subject of an ironic and a genuine fandom on this board since 2018.

Origin

The first occurrence of Faunazon was in a /vp/ thread on October 8th, 2016, where its first design was posted by an anonymous artist^[1] as the final evolution of their Grass-type Fakemon starter Frolifaun (left picture, bottom left character).

Its original Pokédex entry is as follows:

Faunazon are considered symbols of motherhood due its strong sense of compassion to protect those it has strong bonds with. Faunazon can only thrive in a clean environment so it spends most of its day cleaning up its forest.

The same artist seems to have posted various versions of their Fakemon starters on /vp/ to illustrate their design changes. Starting in late December 2018, DeviantArt user Serious-M posted fanarts of these Fakemons, including a vastly re-worked Faunazon^[2] on January 4th, 2019 (picture on the right). It is possible that he was the original anon who drew Faunazon, as its new design corresponds to another of their posts on /vp/.^[3]

Faunazon was described as a waifu as soon as October 23th, 2016.^[4] It was initially treated as a joke on the board because of its assumed human-like rear in the 2018 version, which garnered it the nickname "Assdeer." The design eventually gained a genuine following during 2018, to the point where it inspired a dedicated image board^[5] and custom plushies. Although it has often been unironically claimed to be "waifu material" by many anons, it is also often used to mock those who treat actual Pokémon as their waifus, especially in waifu threads of Gen 8 Pokémon such as Cinderace, Indeedee, and Hatterene. ^[6][7]
