Genius of Love, also known as Fun Natural Fun, is an animation meme that uses the opening part of "Genius of Love" by Tom Tom Club. The meme grew popular as YouTubers animated other characters into the song's music video.

Origin

The Tom Tom Club song "Genius of Love" was first released as a single on September 6th, 1981. The song's music video (shown below) features hand-drawn animation and was officially uploaded to YouTube by RHINO on August 31st, 2019, where it received over 6.9 million views in over four years.

The meme uses the opening lyrics of the song:

What you gonna do when you get out of jail?
I'm gonna have some fun
What do you consider fun?

Usage of the song in animation can be found as far back as 2016. On December 15th, 2016, YouTube user ben Majercak^[1] posted a black & white animation of a man dancing to the song. The video (shown below) received over 9,700 views in over seven years.

The animation trend started sometime in 2019 by a YouTube user named Sear. However, their video has been deleted with no known reuploads. Videos citing Sear's video as the origin can be found, however. On July 15th, 2019, YouTube user Mezais^[2] posted an animation inspired by Sear's original post. The video (shown below) received over 32,000 views in over four years.

On January 20th, 2022, YouTube user Pineapple Wolfy!^[3] posted an animation using the song along with Countryhumans characters. The video (shown below, left) received over 125,000 views in over two years. On June 14th, 2022, YouTube user tedzillow^[4] posted an animation using the song along with characters from Mob Psycho 100. The video (shown below, right) received over 2.2 million views in over one year.

On March 14th, 2023, YouTube user WickCipher^[5] posted an animation using the song along with characters from Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The video (shown below, left) received over 135,000 views in over one year. On May 23rd, 2023, YouTube user А Р Б^[6] posted an animation using the song along with a rabbit and cat character. The video (shown below, right) received over 484,000 views in over ten months.
