German Zoomer Cop

German Zoomer Cop is the nickname of a police officer with a zoomer perm haircut seen in a viral video of German policeman using a "pain grip" to remove eco-protestors from a street in Germany. The video was originally posted online in October 2023 and went viral on X / Twitter that November, inspiring memes and reactions about the so-called zoomer cop, often using Gen Z slang alongside images of the man.

Origin

On October 1st, 2023, The Scottish Sun YouTube^[1] channel posted a video titled "German police continue to use controversial 'Pain Grip' to remove eco protesters." In the video, police escort a member of the Just Stop Oil protest group "The Letzte Generation" off a road using a purportedly controversial technique referred to as "the pain grip," in which the wrist is forced forward to cause pain.^[2] The video gained over 21 million views in a month (shown below).

On November 16th, X^[3] user @navyhato reposted the video, writing, "German police continue to use controversial 'Pain Grip' to remove eco-protesters," garnering over 5,100 likes in four days. Some viewers made note of a police officer with a zoomer perm who appears around the 00:08-second mark of the video and began referring to him as the "Zoomer Cop."

One early example was posted that day by X^[4] user @tacitposthorn, sharing a close-up of the cop, writing, "bussin'," garnering over 6,700 likes in four days (shown below).

Spread

Memes about and reactions to the zoomer cop continued to spread on X over the following days. On November 17th, 2023, X^[5] user @Creedancecreedw reposted the video, writing, "Died laughing when the zoomer haircut cop came onscreen," garnering over 99,000 likes in three days. That day, X^[6] user @DJMcAuley commented an AI generated image of a zoomer cop, garnering over 6,100 likes in three days (shown below, left).

On November 18th, X^[7] user @uncledoomer posted an image of the zoomer cop, writing, "the zoomer generation joining the police force is an inevitability as they reach young adulthood, and with them will come the 'fortnite skin' mentality. gone are the days of uniforms and badges. the cops of the future will sport broccoli hair, anime uwu cat ears, and yeezys," garnering over 400 likes in two days (shown below, right).

That day, November 18th, X^[8] user @jestermaxxing posted an image of the cop, writing, "You no cap have the right to remain silent. Any Ls will be used against you in court fr. Sheeesh!" garnering over 42,000 likes in two days (shown below).
