About
iCarly Flash, also known as iCarly Flash Surprise and Carly Gets Blinded By Light, is a reaction video and GIF from the Nickelodeon children's comedy TV series iCarly in which Carly (played by actress Miranda Cosgrove) walks through her apartment door and gets blasted with a bright light that blinds her upon entering the room. The scene originally aired in September 2011 but became a prominent reaction meme on X / Twitter in late 2019. The iCarly Flash meme is often used by the Stan Twitter community to react to shocking or absurd content they've just seen online.
Origin
On September 3rd, 2011, season 5 episode 3[1] of the iCarly comedy series aired on Nickelodeon. In a particular scene, Carly says goodbye to Fred and then opens her apartment door and gets immediately blinded by a flashing bright light, screaming in pain.
The earliest online mention of the scene was posted on X[2] by the reaction meme page @allreactionvidz on September 15th, 2019, captioning the video, "Carly/white girl saying bye to Freddie then walks/goes into her house and she’s blinded by a flashing/bright light and screams reaction video meme." The post (seen below) amassed more than 1,000 likes and 200 reposts in five years.

On September 17th, 2019, YouTube[3] user Brian Phan uploaded the full scene in which Carly gets blinded by a bright light (seen below), which gained roughly 147,000 views and 4,100 likes in five years.

The scene of Carly getting blinded became popularized as a reaction video on X over the next few years, used mainly by the Stan Twitter community reacting to unpleasant content they unintentionally saw on social media.
For example, on January 10th, 2024, X[4] user @MasonLLL posted the iCarly Flash meme accompanied with the caption "Me walking into the Armie Hammer tag:," which garnered roughly 13,000 likes and 1,500 reposts in three years.

On October 16th, 2024, TikTok[5] user @ms.thvndergirl_edits uploaded a Subtle Foreshadowing video using the Carly flash meme (seen below), amassing over 1.6 million plays and 403,000 likes in a month.
