About
Gigguk (real name Garnt Maneetapho) is a Thai-English YouTuber with a focus on anime and otaku culture. He’s mainly known for his comedic anime reviews and analytical videos on writing in anime and genres. [1] [2]
History
Gigguk (then known as “The Anime Zone”) started his reviewing career in 2008. His first review would be about the anime and manga series “Bleach.” In 2012, he, together with other anime content creators, would create PodTaku, a podcast focusing on discussions around anime (which would continue until its closure in 2016). In 2014, Gigguk would enter a hiatus after taking a job at the BBC, with only a few videos being uploaded during this period. In 2026, he would finally return and begin his shift into a regular, consistent upload schedule, which would result in a big boon in his channel's popularity. In 2020, he debuted Trash Taste, a collaborative podcast with fellow anime reviewers “The Anime Man” and “CDawgVA.” The series focuses on their mutual love of anime and manga, as well as their unique takes and observations on Japanese society. Memes
Plenty of Gigguk's unique, funny phrases and gags have become popular memes in the wider anime and Otaku fandom. [4]
Bad CG!
A running gag by Gigguk making fun of the poor quality of CGI in modern anime with remarks like, “Why is your face bad CG!?” “We are being attacked by bad CG!” etc. Anime fans have taken a liking to it and often quote it when poor CGI appears on screen.
TOOOOOURNAMENT AAAAAAAARC!!!”
A loud cry by Gigguk signifying hype over the start of a tournament arc in the anime “Boku No Academia” from an impressions video about the Spring 2017 anime season has led fans to take to using it as a cry of pure hype every time a popular shonen enters a tournament arc.
Anime is trash… and so am i
Originates from Gigguk's video about “Eromanga Sensei,” where he comes into full acceptance of his guilty pleasure for the show. This line gets quoted by anime fans whenever someone decides to admit to enjoying any "trash" series without worrying about being shamed for it.
