About

Goku and Makima Meet Their Adversary refers to a series of memes imagining Goku from Dragon Ball and Makima from Chainsaw Man being mid-fight and both noticing an even stronger opponent joining the fray. Loosely based on the Makima's "Bang" meme, the format achieved virality on X / Twitter in early June 2024.

Origin

On May 31st, 2024, X[1] / Twitter user @AlphaRecdyt posted an artwork of the character Makima killing Dragon Ball character Goku in the same way she kills a certain character in the Chainsaw Man manga. The post, which was captioned with a line from Invincible, received over 4,300 reposts and 58,000 likes in one week (shown below, left).

On June 3rd, artist @KIN_MACHINA replied with a sequel comic in which Goku in his Super Saiyan form survives Makima's attack and overpowers her. The post (shown below, right) garnered over 7,400 reposts and 72,000 likes on X[2] in three days.
