Google AI "VS." Exploits refers to the results of users experimenting with Google Search AI Overviews, forcing the tool to compare two extremely different topics by searching for them with the construction "X vs. Y," resulting in humorous results comparing and contrasting the two terms. After Gemini AI produced the answers, numerous users shared the responses on social media in October 2024 as the trend garnered virality and spread online.
Origin
On October 6th, 2024, Twitter / X user @samhenrigold[1] posted, "google ai LOVES to step in when it sees 'vs' and will try its hardest to compare whatever you throw at it." They proved this by posting the results of their search for "Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer" and the "Ottoman Empire." The post gained over 3,700 retweets and 44,000 likes in one day and inspired others to post their results by using the "vs" trick.
Spread
As @samhenrigold's post began going viral on Twitter, other users began posting the results of their experiments with the "vs" trick. For example, on October 7th, 2024, Twitter user @skullmandible[2] posted Google AI's comparison between God and Tien from Dragon Ball, gaining over 55 likes in three hours.
Also on October 7th, Twitter user @CMcCurdyPDX[3] posted a comparison between spiders and the Roman Empire, gaining 15 likes in one day.
