Xiaohongshu（小红书） is a popular social platform in China. If users register a Xiaohongshu account using a WeChat account, the system will set the default username to "momo," and the profile picture will be a cute cartoon character. Gradually, "momo" has become a symbol of anonymity on Xiaohongshu.
Guan Yadi（关雅荻）, an influential podcast host over 40 years old, expressed the following opinion after reading media reports about "momo":
Guan Yadi's statement primarily expressed that he would block all users who use "momo" as their username.
When Guan Yadi's statement was reported back on Xiaohongshu, many "momo" users started mocking him. On July 29, 2024, some "momo" users changed their usernames to Guan Yadi's name and used his real photo as their profile picture. After a day of this development, by July 30, almost all active "momo" users had changed their usernames and profile pictures to Guan Yadi.
Active illustrators on Xiaohongshu created satirical cartoons based on Guan Yadi's photo, depicting him surrounded by "momo" avatars.
