About

Gummy Bear Challenge refers to a trend popular on TikTok in which a person positions a gummy bear as though it were singing a song on a stage while music, usually Adele's "Someone Like You," plays in the background. The camera then pans to a sea of gummy bears positioned like a crowd who then appear to join in singing the song of the lead gummy bear.

Origin

In late 2018, TikTok user David Kasprak tweeted a video making it appear as though a sea of gummy bears was singing along to Adele's "Someone Like You." The video was tweeted by @gummybearcrowd on December 31st, 2018.[1]

Spread

The video inspired further edits in the beginning of 2019. Other users to replicate the video with Gummy Bears include user 4kaye (shown below, top) and Twitter user @MikaylaR_919 (shown below, bottom).

Other users parodied the format by recreating it with other objects. Popular examples include a video tweeted by user @astridnicole_ using beer cans that gained over 1,000 retweets and 1,600 likes (shown below, top) and another posted by Tik Tok user brownwithabeard using Vans shoes (shown below, bottom). The meme was covered by Daily Dot[2] and Mashable.[3]
